The right way to plant Tulsi plant as per Vastu Shastra

Tulsi, or Holy Basil, is one of the most sacred plants in India. Tulsi is said to be a manifestation of Maa Lakshmi, and having a healthy Tulsi plant at home helps invite good energies and health to the home.

In Vastu Shastra, Tulsi is considered a powerful plant to make sure that the aura and energy in the household is positive. It is believed to purify the surroundings, and absorb any negativity or stagnant energies.

From the medicinal benefits, to the positivity that it attracts, the plus points of growing Tulsi at home are endless. The fragrance has a calming effect, the leaves are chewed to get rid of cold, or coughs, and much more.

According to Vastu Shastra, the best direction to plant Tulsi is in the North, Northeast, or East direction of the house. These directions are considered sacred and it is said that growing Tulsi here can fill the house with peace and good health.

Traditionally, the Tulsi plant used to be kept in the ‘Angaan’ of the household but as that is not possible in modern apartments, it best to keep it in the terrace or the balcony where it can receive ample sunlight.

According to Vastu shastra rituals, Tulsi plant should be watered early in the morning, the leaves should never be plucked post sunset, and when watering the plant a small prayer must be recited.

Another important rule is that Tulsi should never be planted in the ground. One should always remember to plant the Tulsi on a elevated level, preferably a pot over the rails or a shelf to keep it up.
